About Dr. Alexander Sinclair

Dr. Alexander Sinclair is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Sinclair’s medical education includes a Master of Science degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons at the Institute of Human Nutrition.

He then did research and worked in Jamaica studying and treating infant malnutrition. Upon his return he continued his interest in fat cell development, doing research in conjunction with Columbia University and Rockefeller University on the influence of orchiectomy and oophorectomy on fat cell development in rats.

From this research he became interested in the medical and surgical management of fat. He then attended Michigan State University College of Human Medicine where he received his medical doctorate, general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgical training. Dr. Sinclair is in private practice in Beverly Hills.

Dr. Sinclair has served as a consultant for the State of California Athletic Commission, and Orange County Custodial Medical Services. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery and the Los Angeles Society of Plastic Surgery.

"My experience with gender variance began in the 1970’s when, as a college student, I acted at the LaMama Theatre with some of the stars from Club 82, and little did I know what the future would hold. By 1979, I was doing a plastic surgery rotation at the Stanford University Transgender Clinic.

Unfortunately, academic transgender surgical programs like Stanford’s and Hopkins were phased out, and only a few clinics would continue transgender surgical practice in the United States. I started my own clinical practice, and my transgender patient population has continued to increase year after year.

I love my transgender patients. You're courageous, sometimes risking everything to physically manifest your true self. To me, your journey epitomizes what plastic surgery is. Unlike other specialty practices that focus on the eyes, joints, bones, or skin; plastic surgery is about transformation. And what could be more transformative than the journey of the gender variant?

When I see how strong the transgender community has grown, I am humbled and grateful to my patients.
